Phoenix police shot and killed a man who allegedly had a knife and was fighting with a woman at a west Phoenix apartment complex on Saturday evening.
Around 8 p.m., officers responded to reports of a fight at an apartment complex near 83rd Avenue and Indian School Road.
When officers arrived, they saw a man holding a knife to a woman’s throat while she lay on the ground near the apartment building. Police demanded he stop, but he refused. At that point, officers shot the suspect, Phoenix police spokesperson Phil Krysnky said.
After the shooting, police secured the woman and moved her to safety. The suspect, who has not yet been identified, died at the scene. No officers were injured.
Investigators shut down traffic in the area while collecting evidence and working to understand the events that led up to the shooting.
This marks the 37th police-involved shooting in the Phoenix area and the 70th in Arizona so far in 2025.
